Rusty Finishes the Bench!!Last spring, PB Middle School 8th grader, Rusty Mendoza, organized a Rerip board drop for his graduation project. He encouraged his classmates and local PB surfers to drop off any unwanted surf, snow or skateboards. |
Many Items DonatedHis goal was to help spread the Rerip mission by keeping his classmate's junk out of the landfill. Rerip was able to reallocate some of the boards collected that day, and Rusty used the rest to begin creating a bench for his school. |
Hard Work Pays OffAfter months of planning and trial and error, the bench was ready for ribbon cutting. Rusty thanks his mom and Jennifer Sims, Project Coordinator, for their direction and encouragement. |
Use for Years to ComePB Middle School Principal and Rerip Co-Founder were present for the dedication. Not bad for an 8th grader!! Congratulations Rusty for completing an amazing project.

What a Day!Thousands of dollars were raised for the Junior Lifeguard Program, kids were creating true works of art, people were dancing to live music, many won prizes from our generous sponsors, and a few walked home with some killer deals on used surfboards. |
Wade KoniakowskyThe canvas Wade is using was made by Ned McMahon from Malama Composites. Ned bounded used surfboards that were headed for the dump together with rebar and resin.

Dwell Design 09The Dwell 09 show at the Los Angeles Convention Center was full of life and design, new and old, irony and simplicity. Overall, Rerip was impressed with the creativity, thought processes, and execution delivered by the presenters and participants. Shown in this picture is a prefabricated house (a house made in a factory and then shipped to a given location) auctioning for $53,000 fully furnished with sustainability in mind...

Board Recycling Project ExpandsAs the surfboard recycling projects expands, we realize how important it to not be too attached to any of our ideas. What may seem like a great idea, like keeping surfboards out of landfills and using them as filler for concrete, may indeed not be. We want to consider the totality of what we are doing, measure everything we can, and access our footprint. We of course have to experiment to get there, but we are ok with saying, this may not be the most sustainable idea after all, and move on. Right now, we are looking at analyzing the carbon footprint of everything we are doing with the project. Stay tuned for our progress by checking out our blog. Thanks for the support! |
8th Grader Organizes Board Swap for Rerip Pacific Beach 8th Grader Rusty Mendoza needed to fulfill his school's community service requirements. He asked Rerip if he could organize a board drop-off event. He spread the word and this past Saturday morning encouraged his classmates to bring in any unwanted surfboards, snowboards, skis or skateboards.
|
Stay Tuned for the Works in Progress All of the rideable boards that were collected will be sold for a nominal fee on Rerip. The money will be used to buy materials for the projects the students will complete by turning the unusable equipment into benches and art projects for school use.

AGAVE SURFBOARDS Agave is once again becoming popular among surfboard makers and buyers. No, they aren't drinking tequila, they are using it in their surfboards as stringers, fins, and complete blanks. Agave surfboards look beautiful and if you need a heavy board they can help in the performance department. We found some photos to share with you...enjoy. |
